Dr. Jo Traunter is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hull, where she has made significant contributions to the field of Education, Childhood and Youth Studies through her teaching and research.
In addition to her academic role, Dr. Traunter serves as a Trustee for the UK Haemophilia Society, where she is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders. In particular, Jo is an active advocate for women with bleeding disorders and greater awareness of VWD. Her commitment to this cause is further exemplified by her position as Co-Chair of the Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC) Committee. In this capacity, she works to advocate for better understanding, treatment, and support for those living with VWD.
Jo’s personal journey with VWD began at the age of 37, when she was diagnosed with type 2 VWD after a long history of undiagnosed bleeding episodes. This personal experience has fuelled her dedication to raising awareness and improving the lives of others with similar conditions. As a mother of two children who also have VWD, Dr. Traunter brings a unique and deeply personal perspective to her work, understanding the challenges and triumphs faced by families dealing with bleeding disorders.
Her work with the Haemophilia Society and the VWD EHC Committee has been instrumental in driving forward initiatives that aim to enhance patient care, support research, and promote education about bleeding disorders. Dr. Traunter’s contributions to the field are not only professional but also profoundly personal, making her a passionate and empathetic advocate for the bleeding disorder community
