O.Bülent Zülfikar is a Professor at the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Inherited Bleeding Disorders Center at the Istanbul University Institute of Oncology in Istanbul, Türkiye. He has been appointed as the rector of Istanbul University since 2023. In addition to his academic position, he is a consultant at Istanbul Medicare Health and Medical Care Institution.
Prof Zülfikar is an active member and has held various leadership positions in many national and international organizations. He was the founding President of the Hemophilia Society of Türkiye. He served as the President of the 28th World Hemophilia Congress (2008–Istanbul) and the National Hemophilia Council (2010–2015). He has been elected a permanent member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) since 2012.
Prof Zülfikar has held various prominent positions, such as the Head of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Health Department (1994–1997), a member of the Council of Higher Education (2004–2008), and a consultant for the Ministry of Health (2003–2007) and Turkish Red Crescent (2004–2008).
As an avid researcher, he has contributed to the publication of over 190 scholarly articles, presented at least 600 studies, and co-authored 37 books and book chapters. His outstanding service and contribution have been recognized with 26 awards from universities, several non-governmental organizations, municipalities, and private healthcare establishments.
