Many challenges in medical laboratory diagnosis for inherited bleeding disorder in low/middle income countries are encountered. It encompasses lack of resources (human resources, equipment and reagents), lacks of standardization and interpretation of the assays and absence of quality management.
Education and training in the fields of hemostasis is the first requirement, and need to be performed regularly. Procedures, assays, quality controls are the base of the education. Protocol should be developed and be available.
The choice of the equipment and reagents, is another challenge. Resources should be optimized, with a prioritization of the assays. Reliability of the assay's results depend on standardization and quality controls.
Communication between clinicians and lab persons and multidisciplinary approach will contribute to improvement of diagnosis.
Learning Objectives:
Many challenges in medical laboratory diagnosis for inherited bleeding disorder in low/middle income countries are encountered. It encompasses lack of ressources (human ressources, equipement and reagents), lacks of standardization and interpretation of the assays and absence of quality management. We will discuss how to overcome these challenges.
